Best Choices for Honda Spark Plug Thread Repair

TIME-SERT Kits Comments Off on Best Choices for Honda Spark Plug Thread Repair

Hey everyone, Dennis Bandy here. Today we’re going to talk about something that every car owner dreads – damaged spark plug threads. If you’re like me, you know how frustrating it can be when you have to deal with this issue. Sometimes things happen and we just have to deal with them, today I’m going to tell you about the top 3 spark plug thread repair kits for Honda vehicles.

Now, you might be thinking, “Dennis, why should I trust your opinion on this?” Well, let me tell you – I’ve been working on cars for over 30 years, and I’ve seen it all. And when it comes to spark plug thread repair kits, there’s one brand that stands out above the rest – Time Sert. And lucky for us, Time Sert has three of their best kits available for this repair available here at DenLorsTools.com.

First up, we have the Time Sert 4490 Spark Plug Thread Repair Deluxe Kit. This is the big boy of the bunch, and shops love to have it on hand because it works on both foreign and domestic vehicles. It comes with assorted inserts, so you’re sure to find the one that fits your specific needs.

Next, we have the Time Sert 4412E-111 Standard Spark Plug Repair kit. This one has longer tooling for those hard-to-reach spark plugs, and it comes with washer seat inserts that are most commonly used in Honda vehicles. This kit is great for first-time repairs, and it comes with all the necessary tooling and assorted length inserts to make the repair process as smooth as possible.

But what if the hole has already been repaired and the repair has failed? That’s where the oversize spark plug thread repair kit comes in.

And out of all the kits available, the Time Sert “BIG SERT” 5141E is the one that gets the job done right for bigger holes. This is a big kit, with thick enough inserts to repair holes that have previously been fixed with less reliable inserts. For most Honda’s the 51407 inserts are purchased separately for this kit. The insert is much thicker than the wire coils or even solid inserts found in other kits, and it uses a locking pin and loctite to ensure a secure fit. It also features a self-locking design that expands the bottom of the insert to lock it into place, which is what makes it such a reliable repair option.

So, if you’re tired of dealing with temporary fixes that only lead to more headaches down the road, give Time Sert a try. These kits are the best of the best, and they’ll make sure that your Honda stays on the road for years to come. And if you need help choosing the right kit for your specific needs, don’t hesitate to reach out to DenLorsTools.com at 800-524-9783 or fill out the contact form. We’ve been providing quality tools and repair kits for years, and we’re always happy to help. Thanks for reading, and remember – Use Tools that Make Sense.

F250 Sparkplug blowout problem
DennisB DenLorsTools.com © Summary: Here’s a common question we get when it comes to Ford spark plug blowouts and which kit to use on 2001 and up Ford RF-1L2E Romeo style heads. Then there’s the issue with parts store kit like the Helocoil Save-A-Thread kit that commonly fail making the hole bigger, which requires an oversize repair kit. We deal with this all the time. The heads can be saved in most cases if done properly with a good quality kit like the ones we sell.

Time Sert 4412E-111 – Spark Plug Thread Repair FAQ’s

TIME-SERT Kits 2 Comments

Washer Seat Spark PlugDamaged spark plug threads in the cylinder head can occur in any type of vehicle. Ford seems to have the most problems, however with all the cars today using aluminum heads; it’s becoming much more common problem. We get questions all the time on application for a wide range of car makes. Manufacturers like Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura, BMW Mercedes-Benz, VW, Audi, Mitsubishi, Kia and others can have worn or otherwise damaged spark plug threads. Sometimes the failure is caused by human error, like starting the spark plug crooked and cross threading it. Sometimes the spark plug hole threads are damaged by not tightening the spark plug enough which leads to loosening and vibration which eventually blows the spark plug out of the hole taking some threads with it. Even over-tightening spark plugs can stretch the threads causing damage. Whatever the cause of the spark plug threads getting damaged, we’ve got the kit that will save the cylinder head. Avoid parts store kits that merely put a band-aid on the problem. We have customer’s that need oversize kits after attempting a quick fix from the local parts store, but that’s a different article. In fact if that’s you’re problem see the following article on Oversize Spark Plug Thread Repairs. Otherwise continue reading about first time spark plug thread repairs. Also see our Time Sert 4412E-111 product listing for more information, order online or call us at 800-524-9783. Read the rest…

Toyota 2.4 Head Bolt Hole Thread Repair – Time Sert FAQ’s

TIME-SERT Kits, Toyota No Comments

Time Sert 2200 For Pulled or Stripped ThreadsDennisB DenLorsTools.com © Summary: Toyota’s with the 2.4 four cylinder engine have a common issue of blown head gaskets because of the aluminum threads in the block failing for the head bolts. The middle three or four in the back of the head are usually the weak point, which can become stripped. However, we recommend repairing all ten holes to prevent having a repeat head gasket failure due to stripped threads or pulled threads. This also prevents the possibility of the threads failing during the torque process right after putting the new gasket and head back on the block. This can be very frustrating and has happened to our customer’s more than once! Vehicle’s affected are the Toyota Camry, Rav4, Scion, Highlander with the M11x1.5mm head bolts. The repair system that we recommend, the Time Sert 2200 can also be used in any engine that has M11x1.5mm threads because it is a universal kit which can be used on different hole depths. Thread Insert for Spark Plug Fell into Cylinder Hole!

How To Auto Repair, TIME-SERT Kits 2 Comments

Dennis using Time Sert 5600DenLorsTools.com Summary: Solution for the problem of how to remove a spark plug insert that fell into the cylinder of an engine. Ford spark plug blowouts and how to repair using a spark plug thread repair kit are one of our most covered topics here at DenLorsTools.com and at our sister site WiseAutoTools.com. One question we’ve had several times recently is “what do you do if a Lisle or Sav-A-Thread insert threads down all the way into the hole and drops into the cylinder?” Ouch, that’s a scary thought, was our first reaction. (We also had a recent customer drop a tap from a parts store kit into the cylinder). Having to pull a head just to get a thread insert out is not an easy pill to swallow. After we thought about it for a moment… hey there is a way to get it out without removing the cylinder head!

Why Special Tools are Required for Time Sert Inserts

TIME-SERT Kits No Comments

DennisBDenLorsTools.com Summary: Special tooling is required to properly install Time Sert inserts. I know sounds like it’s either a no brainer… or a sales pitch to make customers buy expensive thread repair kits. Well apparently it’s hard for some to understand that proper tools for the installation of Time Sert inserts are necessary. That’s the reason for this quick auto tool blog.

Maybe it’s the economy. But lately we have been inundated with customers that are really trying to save money. Hey there’s nothing wrong with being frugal or as I like to say “being conservative”. However this is a line that can be crossed. The problem with trying to skimp on tools and just trying to get the job done as cheaply as possible is that “sometimes the job is not a success“. A failed repair ends up costing more in the long run. It’s takes more time, it may damage components beyond repair, there’s more down time, the repair may not last or it may not work at all.

Some customers want to purchase just the insert. Read on to hear how some of the conversations go.
