Tool Box With a Built In Stereo and Refrigerator – Cool!

My wife and I visited our local Lowes home improvement store, looking for a new ceiling fan. While looking up at the ceiling fans, I walked around the end of the aisle in-between a guy and this tool box. I actually walked right in front of him, while he was trying to snap a picture. The guy was all giddy, had his cell phone out and was snapping a shot of a tool box. He looks at me and says “It’s got a fridge”.
I promptly left my wife to look for ceiling fans alone and proceeded to check out this really cool tool box with this guy I never met before. I understood why this was such a “photo-op” now. This is a first. Yeah, I’ve seen the little Craftsman mini refrigerator disguised as a tool box at Sears, but that is nothing compared to this tool box. This box is large enough to hold a ton of tools, has a stainless steel finish, comes with drawer liners, a CD player, Pioneer speakers and best of all….a REFRIGERATOR.
I know what you may be thinking…..does DenLor’s sell this? I’m sorry to say, at this time we have nothing comparable.
I’m not saying this tool box is the same quality as a Waterloo, after-all it is made in China, but it really does rank highly in the cool factor and it seems to be priced very low for it’s size and features. In case anyone at Waterloo is reading this and may be planning to produce a box similar to this, I have one suggestion. I would recommend designing the refrigerator so that it can be locked easily with the rest of the drawers. There would be nothing worse than coming in to work on Monday morning to find out your fridge was raided!

Eric, Thanks. Many auto tech’s virtually live at work, so I’m sure this tool box with a fridge will be a great hit. No matter if you are talking about tools or electronics, if it is cool it will get much word of mouth advertising.

Just thought it was a little funny that the next story below this one is about a bar! How many six packs do you think the fridge could hold? And if more than one, how much work do you think that mechanic will get done before it’s all gone?

I checked this toolbox out last weekend. I am a car audio installer and found this to be a cool toolbox also… until I checked it out closely.
Pros:
It has a large top area on the top box with 2 L.E.D. lights to light up the work area
Has a built in I believe 1.7 Cubic foot fridge
Has a Pioneer CD played with Ipod cable and 2 Pioneer speakers in the top box.
Cons:
The fridge doesn’t lock.
The top of the top box is pressurized cylinders and is a pain to open. There is no handle and must use the key or key lock cylinder to open. Also a problem closing it, no handle, so you must grab it inside the locking mechanism.
Overall cheaply built box. The drawers are a thin sheet metal and the drawers had alot of play when opening and closing them. Also 3 of the drawers would not lock on the display model.
Seemed like a good idea overall but was poorly built. I am still looking right now online for a toolbox with a fridge built in. The large corporation I work for, for some reason does not allow fridge’s in the install bay. Yet my lunch disappears out of the employees fridge quite often so I’d much like a toolbox of this design.

Jason, I agree with you on all points. As far as the disappearing lunch…I worked with someone that told a story about this problem. He would buy a sandwich, eat half and plan on eating the other half the next day. The second 1/2 was always missing. My co-worker decided to add a little mayonaise substitute to his next left over sandwich half. He added white lithium grease which has a very similar appearance to mayo. Needless to say the culprit called in sick a day after consuming the ill gotten goody. And the second half of my co-workers sandwich was never missing again.

I think this box is brilliant, I understand there is some down sides but there is nothing without down sides, so if you were gonna buy a big box of this size or just starting out in the trade, this may not be a bad purchase.

I’m going and getting one for my husband on Tues.
He and his friend checked it out and really liked all that it had to offer. Especially the electrical plugins that were avail..
His buddy that went to look at it with him said that drawers were built good enough that he felt he could stand on then and not have them faulter. He’s around 140. Good enough.

For the weekend garage junkie, this box has all the goodies that will keep your buddies drooling! From a professional mechanic’s aspect, I’d look at higher end boxes( Snap-On, Mac, Matco, etc…). First off, the reason that these toolboxes are so expensive is not only the brand but, you are also buying an investment that will deliver day in, day out.
I’ve been a professional mechanic for over 20+ years and had my Snap-On box for 18 of them and haven’t had one single issue aside from misplacing my keys to unlock my box. They are just built right, from the double ball bearing drawer slides to the thick gauge steel as well as the double wall design to keep the box rigid. Compared to the boxes that Cobalt, Husky, and Craftsman, there is NO comparison. Again, for the weekend wrench slinger, a box like the one mentioned on this page should be fun and functional. Just as long as it will not see the wear and tear that would be normally seen in a repair shop or dealership. I’d give this box in a professional environment 5 years at best. Good luck!

Mike, I agree. The main concern I would have with the cheap “China stainless” is “rust”. I agree that Snap On, Matco and Mac have excellent quality tools and boxes. In my time as a master auto tech, I stuck with boxes made by Waterloo. I just couldn’t justify paying a “tool truck” price for a box that’s only purpose was to hold my tools. I knew plenty of guys that did… just wasn’t my thing. To me it’s not about the box. It’s above all, about your knowledge that makes you money. Sure, tools help to complete jobs easier and faster, but a box is just to help keep the guy’s you work with in the shop honest. OK and to keep things organized so you can find what you are looking for quickly.
Below is a video on how they make snap on boxes, I’m sure the process is about the same with any tool box manufacturer – interesting though.

I am wanting to purchase my husband a nice toolbox. A month ago we saw this toolbox at Lowes and he loved the the refrigerator as well as the ability to listen to music. I was convinced that I would surprise him with this tool box for our 20th anniversary. The more I keep reading regarding this toolbox the more I hear people say it is cool and others say quality is poor. DO you know of a good quality toolbox like this one that has the capability of music as well as refrigerator?

Hi guys,what do you think about the new model with the tv? I liked the hangers on the sides & the little box that opens & closes on the right side of the bench top. Some of the drawers has different sizes of the old model.

I just purchased a similar box in Canada from sears (Craftsman) for $1500 no tax. I noticed poor quality welds, but other than that it feels sturdy. It’s being delivered to my work on Friday. Not gonna lie I’m pretty excited! Here’s a pic – Craftsman Tool Box with Refrigerator.

Jeremy, honestly it’s hard to go wrong at that price. Hope you enjoy it for years to come. Too bad you can’t keep a few cold beers in the fridge since it will be at work instead of your home garage!
