The following is an email from a customer: Hello Dennis, Good morning. Hope you’ve had a great summer so far. Quick update for you. I took on the project to install sleeves on all the spark plugs on my V-10 F-250. I had originally installed two sleeves (of lesser quality) and found out that the previous owners had also done another one (of lesser quality also). In all, three spark plugs had blown out of this engine before I decided to replace them all. Â I ordered your Calvan 38900 Ford spark plug thread repair kit and four extra sleeves (inserts) and started working on my truck the last week.
The tool kit worked great! Very easy to use, precise and durable. The DVD video and instructions that came with it were also very helpful. I used Lithium grease instead of cutting oil to lubricate the drill bit and tap and, like in the video indicated, blew out all the shavings off. Worked great. Â Two of the old sleeves came off when I removed the spark plugs; one remained and I chose to leave it in place (replaced the spark plug, though). I used your drill bit/tap combo 9 times and worked great every time (both, on the new holes (the ones that the spark plugs had not blown out) and also on the bigger holes (the ones where a sleeve had been installed)).
I liked the stop built-in on the drill bit to prevent it from falling into the new-cut hole. I used an o-ring at the end of the tap (placed inside the small indentation around the tool, next to the socket end) once I inserted the tap on the guide to prevent the tap from falling into the new-cut hole. Not that I would have cut all the way to the end of the tap blades, but just in case.
All in all, a great experience. Nothing like having the right tool to get the job done!
A couple of days after completing the project, I drove my truck, pulling a tandem axle, 16′ enclosed trailer, from Colorado to California and back–a 2200 mile trip–with no problems.
Thanks again, Dennis, for taking the time to explain the “advantages” of your tool and how to use it. Much appreciated.
Keep up the great work!
