The TimeSert 2200, is a universal kit that can be used on many different applications for head bolt thread repair on engine blocks. The 2200BS which is an oversize kit, is recommended when a previous repair like Helicoil has been used previously. Â What makes the Time Sert 2200 kit universal is the ability to work on holes with different depths. The internal threads are 11 x 1.5mm which allows the original size head bolts to be used. M11x1.5mm is the most common size head bolt diameter and thread pitch size there is. Even-though it works for so many different engines we sell it mostly for the Toyota. Toyota has a TSB for their headbolt threads in the block failing on the Camry, Rav 4, Highlander and some Scion models. Â Toyota specifically recommends the use of the Time Sert thread repair system to repair their failed aluminum threads. Here’s an excerpt of a related TSB.
TSB 01507, NHTSA #10021542, Dated April 6 2007. Coolant Loss on 2002-2006 Toyota 2.4L, 2AZFE engines The following information concerns the loss of coolant on some 2002-2006 Toyota 2.4L, 2AZFE engines. The location of this condition has been noted at the rear of the engine where the cylinder head bolts to the cylinder block. It has been reported that stripped head bolt threads have been found on some of these engines during tear down. When the two rear head bolts lose their clamping ability they allow coolant to seep out at the rear of the cylinder head.
The instruction guide included in the kit is on the front and back of a single laminated card. The kit comes with ten steel inserts that are a lot stronger than the original threads. And ten inserts is enough to do the entire block if needed. Additional inserts are available that can be added to the kit at checkout and shipped at the same time for no additional shipping cost. That way the kit will be ready to use again when needed on the next job. The kit has a line-up fixture that allows accurate drilling and tapping when used with the drill bushing. There are several length bolts provided. That’s because different lengths may be needed depending upon how far the threads are recessed into the block; the bolts are used to secure the drill fixture for drilling and tapping. The 2200 kit also comes with a metal measuring rule and a sharpie so the depths can be marked right on the tooling. The kit has a drill bit which the manufacturer calls a core drill. A tap is included that makes the threads in the block that accept the thread repair insert. Driver oil is included to be used when installing the inserts. And a good high strength Loctite is in the kit. The Loctite is used on the bottom outside threads. Obviously the outside of the insert needs to be clean and dry when using the loctite. Finally the 2200 kit has an installation driver that’s not only used to install the inserts, it actually finishes the lower threads when expanding and locking the inserts in place from the bottom. This is a far better way to hold the insert in, unlike some competitive brands that want you to wedge the top outwards by whacking a cone shaped tool with a hammer! And all the kit components are stored in blow molded storage case to keep everything organized. If we can help answer any other questions let us know.
