©DenLorsTools.com Summary: Hello, in case you’re not a regular reader of our car repair blog, I’m Dennis Bandy. The picture above is my jump starter. A little about myself – I’m an ASE master tech for over twenty five years. I founded DenLors Tools back in 2005. We’ve sold well over a million dollars in car tools! Which jump starter do I think is best? This is one of the questions that I hear often. We cover this today on this post at DenLors Tools “car repair blog”.
We sell several brands of jump starters and today we are covering one of our best sellers and my personal choice, the DSR 2212.
As mentioned before, the part number PSJ 2212 is not only a popular jump box, it’s my personal choice for several reasons. With so many jump starters on the market, it’s hard to choose one that is the best for the money. Chinese manufacturers are good at copying the look of the quality made jump boxes like Don Schumacher and Jump & Carry brands. However, the look is not what matters most when it comes to portable jump starters. It’s PERFORMANCE. The jump box needs to work when you need it “PERIOD”. There are some other considerations too, see below.
Jump Boxes Need to have the following
1. A durable battery. The battery is the heart of the jump box. Without a strong battery, the case could be made of gold and it still won’t start your car.
2. Good cables. The cables have to be long enough to comfortably reach the car’s battery. The also should be a heavy enough gauge that the transfer of power will NOTÂ create wasteful heat.
3. Quality clamps. The clamps should be HOT on both sides of the clamp to make jumping a car easier. If the clamp only has one end “live” then it can be more difficult to make a good connection.
4. Strong Case or housing. Jump starters can fall onto concrete from underneath the hood. You want a strong case to protect the jump starter’s battery. If the jump box’s battery is the HEART, the jump box’s case is the RIB CAGE protecting it! The bottom of the PSJ 2200 has extra strength built into the bottom of the case which naturally makes it stronger.
The braided wire connects to the opposite side of the clamp.
Other side of same clamp has a great connection for “live” action on both sides.
