TIME-SERT 3221 Summary: The Time-Sert 3221 is specifically for spark plug repair in Ford 3V motors that have damage or missing threads. Thread size is 16X1.5mm which fits 04, 05, 06, 07 and some 08 Ford 5.4 3V engines (also fits 4.6 and 6.8 3v motors). It’s important to know that some 2008 models and newer may have a different kit requirement due to a difference in the seat. Late production 08’s and up may use a special M12x1.25 Taper seat plug.

Ford 3V engines have aluminum heads. This by itself is not usually a problem, however the spark plug type that is used in these cylinder heads commonly break when being removed. That’s where the problem begins. There’s a  Ford TSB which calls for basically working the spark plugs back and forth to attempt to remove the spark plugs without breaking them.

Sometimes the aluminum threads cannot be prevented from being damaged using this method. That’s one reason the Time-Sert 3221 is needed. Other reasons could be simply cross-threading or fatigue and wear. No matter what the reason for the damaged threads, this repair can save much expense by enabling the repair of the spark plug holes without the need for replacing the cylinder heads.
