Summary: Ingersoll Rand introduced their newest air tool at a recent trade show in Orlando Florida. The new tool is an angled air tool with advantages of an air ratchet and the power of an impact gun. It has a 90 degree angle to fit in tight areas that a conventional impact gun will not access. The Ingersoll Rand Hammerhead takes a little getting used to. It may look like a ratchet however it is NOT. Just as an impact gun doesn’t allow you to feel the tightness after a fastener is ran down, the Hammerhead doesn’t either. Most are accustomed to checking the final torque with an air ratchet after a nut or bolt is tightened; the IR Hammer Head doesn’t allow you to do that. With that being said, this is a great tool. The head is low profile and has no openings to the mechanical parts that would allow dirt or grime to enter and cause wear like a conventional air ratchet. In tight areas a regular air ratchet’s head can be damaged if the external parts interfere with surrounding components of the car. Plenty of 3/8″ (IR2015) hammerheads and 1/2″ (IR2025) drives in stock at this time.

I bought a hammerhead last summer. Nice tool, it soon became my favorite. Then,to my dismay, it fell from about 4′ and broke in two. Seems to me it should be a lot tougher than that. Now I need to by (if I can) a whole new cylinder assembly or a new tool. Not too happy with the lack of durability.

Dave, sorry to hear about this. I know I’ve dropped my air ratchets and impact guns plenty of times over the years and have never had anything more than a new scuff mark or a broken air fitting. I’ve forwarded what you’ve said to Ingersoll Rand’s Customer Relationship Manager. I’ll get back with you when I hear back from him. Ingersoll has been terrific to deal with for other minor issues when they first rolled out the Hammerhead. Hopefully they can assist you in some way.
