DenLors has many automotive tools for sale and we answer many questions everyday. The questions below were asked recently related to Genisys scan tools and I thought I would share my responses, in case it may help others when considering the purchase of a Genisys scan tool, accessories or European software updates. Keep in mind information on software and limited time deals are obviously time sensitive, so consider the date of this post. You may also be interested in a previous post – OTC
Answer: If you already have the Euro cables and an older Euro update like 2003, the OTC 3421-73Â Â (2005 European update) is the most recent Euro update for the Genisys right now. If you don’t have the cables see the OTC 3421-74. But OTC says if you wait for a couple of months (til around January 2009) the new European software update will be available, possibly up to 2008, instead of 2005. It makes sense to wait if you can to take advantage of the extra coverage.
Answer: Yes, we offer discounts on purchases over $1,000, see the Discount Coupon info. Basically, you get 3% off (DLTSAVE3) on purchases between one to two thousand dollars and 4% (DLTSAVE4) of on purchases over two thousand dollar’s

Do you sell a scan tool which can read the transmission fluid temp from a ford explorer?

Hassen, Thanks for your inquiry. The Genisys scan tool (which is the best buy in my opinion for the money) can access transmission data. I checked on a 2004 Explorer we have here and it does show transmission temperature.

I recently aquired an OTC genisys with pathfinder 2000 really cheap. Can I update it? It is like new. I am looking at Auto X-ray. Thanks

James, the Genisys software can be upgraded or you may want to resell it and buy the Auto X-Ray you mentioned. Both are good scan tools, however if you want more access to different systems you may want to update the Genisys.

Regarding the European Update, Is possible to install the european update software to the scan tool without having the 2003 software already installed?
Does the starter kit software unlocks the european functionality?
I would only use the OBDII connection without any need for the other cables.
dennisb on the European Software :
Date: February 5, 2009 @ 1:09 pm
Tom, you can upload the European software as long as the scan tool has 2.0 or 3.0 operating software. You are able to access vehicle enhanced data only if you have the vehicle specific cables though. The update wouldn’t really help unless you have these cables as well. Now you can access OBD generic codes with what you already have.

I need a new update and cable, can, GM, Ford and Dodge and flash programing PCM VCM BCM TCM.

Rehan, Updates are available, I’m not sure your going to be able to flash with the Genisys though. You may want to call OTC and talk to tech support (Phone 800-533-6127) to find out more on the flashing capability. As far as I’m aware accessing is possible with most systems but not flashing.

I am looking at OTC Genisys scanners and your site has the 3484 with free 2008 software upgrade coupons. I want to be sure the coupons are still valid before purchasing as OTC said they are not honoring them when I called them to ask and they said to ask the seller of the item to check the dates on the coupons included to be sure.

Tim, Thanks for the inquiry. We’ve been getting that question a lot. The coupons are good, the person that you talked to was misinformed. However, we are out of the 3484 with 07 loaded and coupons. The good news is that we have them in stock right now with Domestic / Asian with 08 ALREADY loaded! Supplies are limited but this is a great deal while they last.

Hi, I was looking into buying a low cost OTC genisys scan tool but I need a scan tool that can see live info on the pcm/bcm/airbag and so on.I also need it to be able to perform special functions that are some times needed. Do you have the appropriate tool that includes these features?
dennisb - Auto Tool Sales :
Date: March 10, 2010 @ 5:53 pm
Rainer, The otc Genisys does provide data in many cases. It does sometimes depend on the vehicle however. It’s hard to get a scan tool to do EVERYTHING, without getting a factory scan tool for each make. Of course most shops cannot afford to do that. The Genisys provides many functions at an affordable price. If you have specific models and functions you are curious about the ORT technical hotline can be contacted at1-800-533-6127.

We have the Genisys Scan Tool @ our shop and deal with alot of 97 – 01 Ford Crown Victorias. What do we need to do to unlock the misfire malfunction in the datastream program of the tool?

Bill, It’s not really locked, just limitations from the car’s system. You may be able to see misfires by looking into mode 6 – see a past post we did covering that.

Hi I have the old Genisys scanner with the black power button. I was wondering if you have any software packages to upgrade it to the newer 3.0 version software, or is that even possible with that scanner? If it is possible, will I need to buy the new smart cord for the 3.0 version or will my old smart cord with the smart inserts work?
dennisb - Auto Tool Sales :
Date: August 17, 2010 @ 10:32 am
Scott, 4.0 is the latest. 4.0 is also required for newer updates. The inserts may still work, however the added convenience (and coverage) of the new smart cable is well worth the upgrade. You may want to consider selling your old scan tool on craigslist or ebay and replace the entire unit with a brand new (not refurbished) Genisys. Right now we have one with 2009 Asian & Domestic AND a smart cable. This way you have a new battery and charger too. Use Coupon code DLTSAVE3 at checkout to get more savings (no sales tax charged outside Florida). We have these in stock today 8/17/2010 in 4 warehouses throughout the country for quicker ship times. See the link below for more info.

Hi I was wondering if the Latin American sotware will work on vehicles in the United States? Is there any differences in the sofware that you know of?
Thanks!
dennisb - Auto Tool Sales :
Date: August 25, 2010 @ 9:57 am
Tom,
Only if the Latin American cars meet USA emission standards (OBDII). I doubt that they do. I recommend buying scan tools in your region since the cars and standards may vary greatly depending on what part of the world we are talking about.
You may want to contact OTC for more information.

We have the red power button Genisys with 3.0 software can I buy the combo pack with 4.0 and upgrade?
Thanks and have a SUPER day!
dennisb - Auto Tool Sales :

Robyn, Right now, I would recommend getting a new Genisys with the 4.0 system, 2009 Asian and Domestic already loaded. The reason is because of the cost of the update currently compared to the deal we have going on a NEW Genisys. Just a little more money and you can get a brand new scan tool, already updated. new battery, charger, smart cable etc. Click the following link for the software update info and current pricing that you originally asked about. Software update.
We may not always have the new 3696 Genisys at this great of a deal but at the moment we do. See the following link for more information on the best deal on the Genisys I’m referring to. Genisys 3696 Classic.
Also remember we don’t charge sales tax outside of Florida at this time (unless something changes at some point) – We offer free shipping, you get a 1 year warranty directly from OTCtools.com and you can use a coupon code to get an additional 3% off at checkout – DLTSAVE3. If you decide to get the replacement Genisys, then you could either sell the older one you have, use it as a back up to access older cars or use it for OBDII code reading and clearing.
Wait that’s not all! Right now the 2010 software is not out. So for a limited time we are including 2010 update Coupons for Domestic and Asian Software at no additional cost! Supplies are limited, so act quickly to take advantage of this great deal.

Chris, 4.0 is the latest operating software. The Genisys does not have flash capability. If you are not talking about reprogramming, but an actual procedure, you may want to ask OTC’s Tech support on that specific function – their Phone number is 800-533-6127. I wish I could be of further assistance.
